The CISM Summer school, Deadline March 1st 2015
So this is a summer school really for first year graduate students and professionals but is also opened to the advanced undergrad. Currently it is out in Boulder CO, but when I went it was in Boston MA. It was a blast! I remember when I went there it was stated that part of the aim was for us to all get to know each other and for friendships that would ultimately lead to collaborations. Low and behold that came true this last year when Sarah McGregor and I started working on some BARREL stuff. She's a Solar gal, and I'm inner Magnetosphere. We thought we'd never have a project to work on together and 10 years on we're collaborating on multiple papers and grants. Who knows, maybe this will be you in 10 years time!
Los Alamos Space Weather School, Deadline February 6th 2015
The LANL Summer school is a bit longer but I believe that you actually get to do a bit of research out there, and of course make some wonderful contacts!
CU Boulder LASP REU, Deadline February 4th 2015
CU Boulder LASP is where I got my Masters degree and a summer out there as an undergrad would be a ton of fun! It's right next to the mountains, perfect summer weather with beautiful sunny days, oh, yeah, and a ton of great research. CU Boulder is one of the hot spots for space physics, so not a bad place to try out and perhaps think about for graduate school.
Heliosphysics Summer School, Deadline February 27th 2015
Another one in Boulder and one with an eye to a broader heliospheric view. Again, not a bad place to spend a summer.
NASA Space Radiation Summer School, Deadline February 8th 2015
Interested more in the human element... specifically how space radiation can affect astronauts in space? Well then this is the summer school for you!
Montana State University Summer REU, Deadline February 17th 2015
Bozeman Montana for Solar physics anyone? Apparently the applicants are often interested in Solar physics, but I know that they do a bunch of space physics too! Quite a few cube sats and balloon missions have come out of this neck of the woods. Besides, a drive out there or back before school with a detour through Yellowstone National Park? Why not.
Didn't see one here that fit the bill? Check out NSF's site with a bunch more REUs listed. Why did I highlight the ones I did? To be honest they were either ones I already knew about and/or were the first in the google search. Carlton College has a great website with even more information and links! Still can't find exactly what you want, but you know who and where you want to work? E-mail them and ask them if there happens to be anything! That's how I got Sadie out to Dartmouth. She e-mailed and asked me and I asked Robyn if there was room in the BARREL budget to pay for her to come out. You never know unless you ask!
